StreamSets Support Team would like to inform you that we discovered an issue where StreamSets Data Collector and StreamSets Transformer deployed via AWS Marketplace AMI fail when initially starting.

Products Affected: StreamSets Data Collector and StreamSets Transformer

Releases Affected: All versions available on AWS Marketplace

Users Affected: StreamSets Data Collector and StreamSets Transformer deployed via AWS Marketplace AMI

Severity: High/Medium

Description:
A StreamSets Data Collector or a StreamSets Transformer instance deployed via AWS Marketplace AMI may fail when initially starting. A user can find the following exception in the sdc.log file.

ERROR Main - Abnormal exit: java.lang.UnsatisfiedLinkError: no nio in java.library.path java.lang.UnsatisfiedLinkError: no nio in java.library.path

This issue happens if the Amazon Linux AMI has auto package updates turned on, which is set by default. In this case, a Data Collector or a Transformer instance is starting at the same time as the package updates (including Java update) are in progress and the Data Collector or a Transformer instance loads the path of the old Java version. After package updates finish, the Data Collector or a Transformer instance cannot find the correct Java version and fails.

Immediate action required:  No

Workaround: Restart the Data Collector or Transformer instance within the AWS EC2 instance.

Fix: AWS Marketplace AMIs will be updated to turn off auto package updates, and we will recommend the customers to run package updates on a periodical basis.
